I was going to play with this, but reading that it will reset after a few syncs, I've decided to wait / hope that Apple come to their senses and enable this for everyone.

I actually tried this out on an iPod, and it worked. I’d pretty much given up reading anything really lengthy on a small handheld. Probably goes back to bad experiences with PDFs on them—it wasn’t fun. I have to admit, that while the iPod screen was certainly small, I had no difficulty reading the text, and looking at footnotes that appeared on the same page, without opening another. I know there are larger reading devices out there, but it seems ReadSmart has something here. I mean, having an iPod is commonplace these days—in and out of the classroom.
